With many similar lawsuits pending across the nation, the jury’s decision is being seen as a watershed moment for other so-called detransitioners, or people who have stopped or reversed their gender treatments. Epoch Times journalist Darlene Sanchez, who has documented the struggles of detransitioners, previously highlighted two more major trials coming this year, including a case brought by Chloe Cole, a prominent former transitioner.
The jury’s $2 million award for Fox Varian, who was 16 years old when a surgeon removed both of her breasts, has opened the door to more lawsuits, according to Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier.
Dozens of lawsuits are pending across the nation, including the case brought by Chloe Cole, a former transitioner who has become an activist against gender surgeries. “The success of this case is a huge leap for the detransitioner movement, and every doctor and clinic involved in this fad should be very afraid for what comes next,” Cole wrote in a text message to The Epoch Times.
Although the legal implications of Varian’s case are limited, experts told The Epoch Times that future cases may follow a similar pattern, with juries finding that health care professionals rushed clients into these procedures without due consideration.
Varian’s case focused on lapses by the surgeon and psychologist in following the gender treatment protocols and not on the merits of so-called gender affirming care.
