Eric Swalwell: Taken Out By His Own Democrat Hit Squad
Paul Crespo
April 14, 2026

It was amazing to watch. And it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy (sarcasm intended). But the rapid, dramatic implosion of Eric Swalwell’s 2026 Democrat gubernatorial bid in California and now his political career as he resigns from Congress was not simply the product of a typical tawdry campaign sex scandal.

Though the accusations against him are extremely serious and credible, his downfall can still be seen as a precise political hit job; a swift, coordinated surgical strike by the Democratic establishment mafia of the nation’s most populous state, engineered to eliminate a potential “wild card” — and close ranks around a more palatable, malleable Democrat candidate before the June primary.

Considering Swalwell was a master of executing political hit jobs and partisan knife fighting, it was surprising to see him hoisted on his own petard by his own party.

First, note the timing of the allegations. They surfaced at a critical time when polls showed a crowded, volatile field, with Democrats fearing that, under California’s “top two” primary system, if too many Democrats split the vote in June, two Republicans could advance to the general election in November, locking Democrats out of the governor’s seat.

Before dropping out, Swalwell was a front-runner among Democrats but trailed leading Republicans Steve Hilton and Chad Bianco.

When the San Francisco Chronicle and CNN broke the ugly story of sexual assault and serious misconduct allegations on April 10, 2026 (likely fed by Democrat operatives), the reaction from Democratic leadership was not just condemnation — it was immediate tactical abandonment, executed with precision by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the national party leadership.

For months, Swalwell, a seven-term Bay Area congressman and well-known Trump-hater, was building momentum, picking up critical labor endorsements and rising in the polls. This threatened to make the California governor’s race, intended to be a coronation of a party-favored moderate, into a chaotic, messy free-for-all.

As we all witnessed during Hillary Clinton’s coronation in 2016 and Kamala Harris’s selection in 2024, Democrat leaders hate messy primaries, or elections, for that matter.

To Democrat establishment leaders, a left-wing, media-friendly scrapper like Swalwell, who lacked deep ties in the state capitol in Sacramento and had compromising ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) via a Chinese spy on his political team a few years back (details soon to be released by the FBI), was a risk to the party’s stranglehold on the governor’s mansion.

The “coordinated” nature of the hit was apparent in the swiftness of the response. Within hours of the allegations — two of which involved a former Swalwell staffer, one in 2019 and one in 2024 — the very colleagues and allies who had once boasted about his role in the anti-Trump resistance turned into judges and executioners. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Whip Katherine Clark, and Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar all immediately called the allegations “incredibly disturbing,” calling for a “swift investigation,” and for Swalwell to “immediately end his campaign.”

But it was Nancy Pelosi, the female don, or godmother of the Democrat mafia, who delivered the coup de grâce. The elderly Pelosi, whose influence in California politics remains absolute, and who had not previously endorsed in the race, didn’t just comment on the allegations; she personally informed Swalwell that the investigation needed to take place “outside of a gubernatorial campaign,” effectively telling him he needed to go, quickly.

Key allies and endorsers quickly withdrew support, including California senators and campaign co-chairs, creating a rapid collapse of his campaign infrastructure.

The timing was impeccable for the establishment. With mail-in ballots looming for the June primary, the allegations created the perfect moment to force a resignation before the field was fully locked. The goal was clearly to stop a potential, and potentially embarrassing, primary win by someone who likely couldn’t win the general election.

Of course, the Democrat political assassins framed his forced departure as necessary to protect the party’s reputation and support alleged victims, who should be supported, but the Democrat establishment also forced a situation where continued support for Swalwell became impossible.

Rivals, who had been scrambling against a surging Swalwell, immediately rushed to fill the void, indicating that the move was, in part, about clearing the path for a different, chosen candidate to consolidate support.

Swalwell, in a defiant statement, suggested the charges were “false” and timed to happen “on the eve of an election against the frontrunner.” He understood what was happening: he was being pushed out by his own party leaders.

In the end, Swalwell’s career became collateral damage in a high-stakes, ruthless Democrat campaign for control of California.

The message from Pelosi and the D.C. establishment was clear: in the new California political landscape, loyalty to the party hierarchy is paramount. And if you don’t suit their needs, the Democrat mafia will simply take you out.
