No, they are not.

Do not assume that they will not succeed.

Socialism is a relentless siren song. It is inevitable that the US will continue down the socialism path and will eventually become the Western Hemisphere's equivalent of the now (temporarily, at least) defunct USSR. We are much too far along to stop it.
