  • Wing tipped jointer
  • Was missing a jointer on my '40 one bottom plow. Picked up this one. The round one below is off my '46 ferguson 2 bottom for comparison. Was what I'm calling the wing tipped jointer used on the earlier or later plow? Did ford use them or maybe ferguson later after the split?

  • The Dearborn Plow MPC lists the "Long Blade" jointer as p/n 103098 and used on, like Scott said, Prior Models as well as the Economy Model plow coulters. The one thing I've noticed is that I have only seen them on single bottom plows. I consider the 10-14 Two-Way Plow basically a single bottom but since they have their own jointer arm/check chain attachment they don't use jointers. I found two 5 gallon buckets of NOS jointers and palms at a friends defunct dealership years ago and he basically let me have them for nothing.

  • HiYa Kirk-
The extended tip Jointer was used on all the Ford-Ferguson and Dearborn Plows, according to the MPC's and what Scott says. I have only seen them on the early Ferguson-Sherman plows, and only on 1-bottom plows. I have my grandfathers' original 1-bottom F-S plow, with the FORD script cast into the mainbeam and it is complete with the original coulter and extended arm jointer. I recently saw this F-S 1-bottom plow, complete, and it has the extended jointer as well. I believe the intent was to help assist better rollover of the furrow slice. the jointers' design was actually a kind of mini-moldboard. Coulters and Jointers were always optional equipment on the plows as well. You didn't need them to plow with, but you do need the rolling landside (Tail Wheel) or furrow wheel.

  • Thanks Tim. I noticed that on the earlier fordson plows they used a similar jointer.

  • Kirk -just curious, does your F-S 1-bottom plow have an ID TAG on it?

  • No Tim my plow is missing the tag. The Plow was bought when the original owner of my 1940 9n bought the tractor in late 1940. In the photo you have posted of my plow you can see where the rivets were on the frame inbetween the two hex head bolts where the side of the frame connects with the main frame (above in line with the jointer arm)

  • I also think I see the FORD script logo cast in the mainframe on the inside...

  • The winged jointer is used on all one bottoms regardless of year on both Ferguson and Dearborn.

  • Thanks Scott. I wasn't sure if it might have been used for the earlier fordson plow

  • I just looked in my original 1951 copyright for : Dearborn economy plow. It pictures the rounded end "shiny one" as for that plow. The parts list does not list jointers.
