  • Got A little work done on my '43 2N logging winch tractor today. Changed out the rear rotten 32" rims with other 28" rim/tires I had and change out the front hub/rim/tires with one off a 1937 ford deluxe car. Picked up the hubcaps at a swap meet last year.

  • Nice job. Were the hubs a direct replacement?

  • As Kirk says, the 37 Ford hubs look just like the 9N/2N tractor hubs, but the bolt circle is 3/4" different. Car hubs have a 10.5" circle and tractor hubs are 11.25". Not enough of a difference to spot with the naked eye but you find out quick when you try to mount car rims on tractor hubs.

Fortunately the car hubs fit the tractor spindles without any modification. I used to have a photo of what it looks like when you try to put a tractor wheel on a car hub, but apparently I haven't logged into my photobucket account in a long time and it's been deleted.

  • Jim, nice to see you are still around and keeping an eye on the site.
Since I save everything I found the link. It beats me having to scan everything and post it.

  • If you look at another set I have you can see that the hubs look just like the 9n/2n. BUT if you just have the rims they will not bolt up to a 9n/2n hub. the lug bolt holes will not line up. You must use the hubs from the ford deluxe. Some people have bough just the rims and in this case you can move the rim on your 9n/2n hub and drill new holes. if you have the hub/rim it's an easy swap direct fit.

  • Pulled a couple of logs with it to make sure the winch was operational.

  • another shot it also has a capstan rope winch which I removed so I could shorted the wheel width. The way it was it was too wide for my logging trails. In some spots I have rock on both side and it would fit without moving the rocks with a backhoe. Beside it makes it a little easier to maneuver in the woods.

  • Here's a shot of the tractor when i picked it up last years. It use to pull boats out of the Delaware river below Philadelphia,Pa. The winch it 10,000 lb, basically the same type they used for rigging in the oil fields. I got it running after years of not being used. Even pulled a couple of logs with it. Still needs work but little by little i'm getting there. will post some photos when done.

  • People used a variety of rims to use bigger tires. Nice job.

  • As a small child growing up in the late 40's, I vividly recall my dad's first auto, a dark blue '37 Ford slant back two door V8 sedan with the same style rims and hubcaps (dad's had stainless trim rings) as those posted in your photo - thanks for the fine memories.

  • Funny thing is there is a promo photo of a 9N Tractor all spit and polished for show and it even has chrome hubcaps on it! It is in one of the Ford Tractor books, I think one of Randy Leffingwells'...
