  • Rock picking with the 640
  • Picked up a nonrunning 640 with sherman backhoe and wagner loader. Got it running so I figured I'd pick a rock out of the garden. Only a small piece of the rock was showing. When I started digging it looks like he has friends. After 7 years of picking rocks out of this garden I thought I'd be done with this size rock but I guess not.

Would love to seethe rest of that tractor. 640 is one of my favorites.
What did you do to get it running?

  • I didn't have to do too much to this one to get it running. Owner started taking it apart a couple of years ago to fix things and paint it. He got another tractor and never finished this one. He was kind enough to allow me to work on it, of course paid for with bill of sale in hand, so I could get it running and drive it thru a couple of horse paddocks and down a narrow lane, too narrow to swing my buddies trailer down, so I could load it in the street' Here's the link. also got the sheet metal and extra bucket for it.

  • Kirk:

Can your stabilizers be set independently to level the tractor, or do they both go down/up together?

Do you have a separate lever to operate the stabilizers or do you have the diverter valve?

    Thanks.

  • Hi Bruce,
Separate levers and can be set independently to go up and down.

  • Be careful, if you place is anything like mine the rocks hide underground and multiply in the night.

    Good looking backhoe.

  • Looks like she did a good job of it. Very cool that an ole Sherman backhoe can still do some useful work!

  • Yup and with the sherman combo in high range speeding up the pto the hoe has good response.
