  • If I knew the dimensions...
  • I got a new toy. I have it chucked up in my brace drill in the picture. It works as a gasket cutter so I would like to try cutting some for my tractors. I'm thinking it will allow me to cut drain plug gaskets for the housings and the engine. Also think I will try a couple for the gas cap. I can do the gas cap okay but I don't have the dimensions for the drain plugs. Not sure if the engine drain plug takes a different size than the trans and hydraulic housings. Anyway, if someone has those dimensions, I would be grateful if you would be willing to share such with me. If I can get the dimensions, I will give them a try. Soon as I get over the dag-blasted stomach flu that is.

  • The Old Hokie has trans and hyd plugs correct. The engine oil is 3-1/16" OD and 2-5/8" ID. Both my engine and gear lube gaskets are 1/16" thick. The gaskets can be a little loose once over the threads but I just grip the plug by the flange and gasket being certain to center the gasket and once hand snug just tighten it tad with a wrench.

  • I make the oil drain plug gasket 2 9/16" X 3 1/4"

  • The drain plugs for the transmssion and hydraulic are a 2-12 thread. Gasket ID of 2" and OD of 2.5" would be about right. The ID on the replacement gaskets sold today is a little larger than that and I don't care for the sloppy fit. The gasket material itself is a heavy/dense fiber board roughly 3/32 thick and works just fine. The engine oil drain plug is a larger diameter and offhand I don't know exactly what size it is.

  • The original gaskets are made of asbestos with an aluminum center layer. Some posters make them from corn flake boxes. The original gasket are tough, must have been made 3 layer for a good reason.I have some in my gasket box.I will see if there are different sizes.

  • I usually buy them by the dozen. Less than fifty cents. There are two sizes and made out of impregnated fibrous material. I don't have much luck with neoprene type materials. Your cutter is neat, I have a similar one but only cuts one radius at a time. If no one pops with the sizes I can do it tomorrow afternoon.

  • Never tried it but I'd guess this would make excellent drain plug gaskets:

    Aramid fiber reinforced Buna-N
