  • Fuel shut off valve......Silly question
  • I replaced my original valve and fuel bowl with a new one. Lost the knob and acrew from the new one. Took the knob and acrew from the old one. Knob fits but the screw will not. I suspect the new one is Chinese and the screw is likely metric. Can any one advise the screw size? DED

  • take the whole unit or the stem to ACE hardware and get a screw that fits.

  • I learned after losing one knob while working in the field all day and once back at the barn noticed it was missing. That's when I bought anew valve stem with knob and screw and put dab of Loctite on the screw. I do this on all sediment bulbs when I work on them. The screw is standard round head machine screw, size 8-32 with a star washer. New valve stems are sold separately for less than $10. Like I stated, a dab of LOCTITE thread sealant will ensure you never lose another knob.

  • Tim,

I have some Threadlocker 242, the blue stuff. Would that work in this application as well? I know the #271 red Threadlocker stuff won't work cause you need heat to loosen the screw it's on.

  • Tyman-
Either RED or BLUE will work -there's no need to ever have to take it back off and it doesn't interfere with the function of valve. When the rubber seal gets old and worn and it starts leaking, time to just get a new valve stem -there's a new knob and screw in the kit so it's just going full circle. Now, for the sediment bulb thread that screws into it the gas tank I use this stuff:

  • Tim, do you rebuild other people's shut off valves? I have a original 1951 ferguson TO 30 valve that leaks. I believe from the stem, possibly the bowl gasket. Thanks, John

  • Well I can but don't advertise it...you can email me for more info... I'm trying to get some original 9N Brass Fuel Sediment Bulbs fixed so as not to leak.

  • don't know what trouble you had with first one but you could unscrew the hole shaft and knob and swap it
