  • Re: DECALS
  • Most Ford Tractor parts suppliers like Just8Ns sell complete decal sets for these old N's. Some are vinyl adhesive and some are like the originals -water soluble. The kits contain the air cleaner, oil filter, PTO, and 8N Draft Control/Position Control one and some have the Proofmeter and Battery warning. Al are available individually as well. The early 9N used two air cleaners, one the Donaldson, and Bradish has the decals for the that one too -see LINK -it is yellow and black. The UNITED used the blue and white one.

  • Re: DECALS
  • Braddish sells Correct decals with the Period Correct Ford scripts. Carpenter and other vendors decals utilize the modern 1965 and up Ford script which is incorrect. FWIW. SoS.

  • What? The decal sheets are wrong? GASP!
I figured that was your mission. Several of the decals on the sheets that were supposed to be correct for my tractors, did not appear to match the outline of what was originally there, and there were decals for places that didn't appear to have ever had a decal. I wondered about the historical accuracy of a decal sheet that was supposed to be correct for so many years, but since they came with detailed instructions for placement of each decal... Yea, right, I wasn't willing to bet on it, but wasn't trying to do accurate restorations anything like as nice as Just8ns does.

  • Re: DECALS
  • Kevin....I guess I'm the one to blame for a lot of the mis-info. Back about 20 years ago....... I had several decals made for Dennis Carpenter. I did use original decals as patterns but they just made them close and I just accepted them because I didn't
care much about 9-2ns.I didn't know much about them either and didn't think it would ever matter. BUT......things change. I am now 80 years old and hope that I can help get them a little closer to being correct. Just to get things started....does anyone know how many decals were on the 9ns with the Donaldson air cleaner and snap in battery cover? How about the 9ns with the snap in battery cover and United air cleaner? how about the 9ns with The United cleaner and battery cover with the chrome handle. Let's work this out together like other things we have figured out in the past. Thanks to all for your input.don b

  • GASP indeed. Given the questioner I thought the mission and his concerns were quite clear from the outset.

  • Re: DECALS
  • I'd say the ones made today are pretty darn close to the originals. Bradish has pictures of all the ones he carries...The DONALDSON air cleaner decals were used on a few Allis-Chalmers tractors as well. Veteran member here Kelly Jewell once repopped them and sold them as well, but besides Bradish, they are available on fleabay in sets sold under AC tractor parts. Member John (AL) also made some VG quality decals in pdf you can print off and make your own -search archives for his info.
