  • Axle bearing cup/bearing installation
  • Bought a new rear axle and bearing. I'm going to try seating the bearing on the axle myself by freezing the axle and heating the bearing then forcing on with PVC pipe, wood block and a hammer. I saw this method in another forum. As for the new bearing cup, will the same method work? Freeze the cup, heat the retainer, wood block and a hammer. Is this feasible?

  • The axle bearing will go on like that. Not sure Id do it for the cup. But that just opinion.

  • Reason I ask is because the old bearing cup was difficult to drive out of the retainer. I figured it was a press fit with how tight it was.

  • I'd be suspicious of PVC pipe.... that may cushion the hammer way too much.... and it should go on QUICKLY...
