  • I've Been Working (Van Morrison) the past 3/4 weeks between the rains and was finally able to get the winter corn planted at the farm on Friday and Saturday. The forecast predicted 50% chance of T-Storms both days, and for once they were right. I'd just finished the last field late Saturday afternoon, about 16.00 when not 20 minutes later the heavens let loose and a short 10-15 minute downpour was just enough to get the soil moist to initiate germination. Sunday was church in the AM and working on FTT articles, cleaning carbs, and painting parts the rest of the day. Monday was spent visiting good friend and fellow NTC Administrator Farmer Dan. It got to almost 90F with high humidity and it was pleasure to sit, talk, and imbibe in some ice cold Canadien Amber Fluid. A brief shower came at 15.30 and that only added to the humidity when it stopped ten minutes later. Twas a wonderful 3-day weekend...

  • HAHAHAHA!!! Good catch, Jimmy. I was wondering when someone was going to catch that. You win. "Winter Corn" is just my own phrase I use to cornfuse the city folks when they ask me what I'm planting in late summer/early fall in my deer/turkey food plots. I even have had some answer back with, "...oh, yeah, I've heard that stuff really brings in the deer and turkey..." It started one year way back in 2003 while planting mine and a neighbors back properties with rye, wheat, rape, and sorghum. A third neighbor, a recently transplanted city boy strolled over and asked why and what I was planting in September and on the spot I came up with that. He never blinked, just said, OK.

  • Had to go back and read your post again. Nice one! I read it so fast I thought you were talking about winter wheat. LOL

  • Same way down here in southeast Texas Tim - rained most of last week and forecast is calling for more (40% daily - no pun on that buddy) through next Monday. We surely needed rain, but enough is enough!

  • Sounds like a great weekend. How's Farmer Dan doing?
All I did was change a battery. Cut the grass.
Build a picnic table. Help redo some cabinets.
Wax a boat. Clean up one garage. Put together a day-bed.
And watch the hokies beat Florida State, with an amber beverage as well!
