  • Is everybody ready for snow
  • Rigged up an old meyers truck plow to my '40 9n. used an old loader valve for control. Only had one 10" snow fall so far and it work good. I would be happy if we didn't get any more for the season but that's highly unlikely.

  • A friend gave me this "Snow bear" brand snow plow, I mounted it on one of my 8n's, used it for 3 years worked great, now it's on the front of a Jeep Cherokee I picked up. Jeep is for plowing only, I've had enough of sitting on a 8n in a snow storm plowing snow!!
Give me heat, radio, headlights and wipers !!

  • By all means, most snow is pretty to look at - in photos that is! Having lived here in the south all of my now 74 years, we get it so seldom (thank the Good Lord above), but when it does fall, we simply can't deal with it as dealing with the cold alone is bad enough on old finger, leg and arm joints, ha!

  • It's not so much the snow I dislike, but the temps below freezing I cannot hack. I just got in from muzzle loading deer hunting on yet another day that was only 30F high. This morning it was only 10F! All regular deer season it was the same thing. Last week we had one day that hit 59F. We had good tracking dust everyday, but it all melted that one fluke day last week. When we were kids, snow was cool. We prayed for a snow day but back then those only came if we got more than 2 feet of snow, unlike today where the chance of snow has school admins closing them before it even hits. We'd have our hockey rink made by Thanksgiving and seems it stayed that way til April. I used to love running my 8N to plow snow. I'd do the whole neighborhood, sometimes going 8-12 hours a day. Now with my arthritic knees and hands, I can't hack the shifting and clutching and raising and lowering. Now put me in an F-250 4 x 4 with front snow plow, warm cab, hot coffee, and the oldie C&W radio going, well, now its not work anymore. the ultimate Ford 9N Snow Plowing machine was put together by our own Farmer Dan. He installed a winch on the front and fabbed his own front snow blade. The unit is controlled up and down via the winch -no hydraulics involved at all. He added a Dearborn Utility Blade on the 3-Point as well. He also has a ZANE THANG installed and tire chains so this puppy ain't never gettin' stuck! Due to life issues, he no longer can play in the snow with Maude and has had her up for sale for a few months now.

  • I have a Ford front plow for my tractor but this will be the 3rd year that I've used the backblade instead.
In fact, I'm selling the plow.
I'm going to build a mount to put a pickup plow on my tractor.
Use a remote valve to power angle. I'm getting lazy...

  • We got 14" +- of really fine snow. Looks real purdy. We got 4-6" more then predicted.
Schools are closed again for tomorrow.

  • I have had to move snow 8 times already this season.
But it is not too bad in a climate controlled cab.

  • Much nicer that the rear blower that was on Big Blue. Turning your head backwards would make my neck tired after a while. :-)

Good deal on the front mount blower.

  • Reminds me of Blacksburg Va. Where it only snowed once a year, but it blew around and around for the next six months. Nice rig.
We don't get enough snow here in Richmond Va to justify any fun stuff like that.

  • Looks good, nice work!

We could use some snow here in Iowa. Year before last I never started my snow blower. Last year, one time. So far not at all this year!

Looks like North Carolina is getting hit this morning. They are not used to it so it is very tough for them. I was there one time when they got hit.

  • Nice work there Kirk. That thing looks lean mean. : ) Couldn't see what you are using for weight on the back.
I'm as ready as I every was for snow. We need it badly out here in the arid southwest. I have the Johnny Bucket on my Monster (Cub Cadet GT) ready to go should it start laying it down. Actually, just thinking about it, I don't think I have the chains on it yet. Soon as I get well enough to mess around outside for a bit, I might go chain it up. We went to Florida over Thanksgiving and ended up with bronchial infections. Done with the pills now so it shouldn't be long now.

Anyway, if you get that monster plowing, hopefully you will share some pictures of it in action.

  • Using axle weights for rear weight.

It worked good the last snow storm. I did have to add a pair of skid shoes to keep most of the gravel in my driveway and not on my lawn cause the ground wasn't frozen yet.

  • Nice rig Kirk. I am ready now after we had snow before Thanksgiving. Used the 30 year old Ariens walk behind for that event. It worked, but was time consuming.
