  • A while ago I read a post here about getting a 80th ford n tractor show going. I thought someone said something about getting it at the octagon barn gagetown mi. Any news on that front? The barn is not to far from my father in caro. I would be able to get him and bring my electric 8n.

  • Hi Tim-
Over two years ago I began to seek a venue that would be willing to host a special event for the 80th Anniversary of the 9N Ford-Ferguson tractor. At first I was going to make it for early 9Nís only, but then realized by making it an all Ford Tractor only show participation and attendance would be greater. The date is June 29 and it happens to fall on a Saturday this year so it would have been a perfect time for a show. I first went to the Henry Ford/Greenfield Village but they wanted to know how many people were going to attend and then threw a fee at me to rent out the place. Huh? When they gave me a six figure number I aid forget it. I then went to the F/FCA and several local tractor clubs like Buckley and nobody was interested. I know these events need to be planned a year or three in advance, thatís why I started when I did. The clubs all had that time slot filled. I assumed that the Henry Ford would have jumped at the opportunity to present a special event like this. The HF/GV is run by a bunch of younger kids now, and they have no idea what history is all about. If it doesnít concern rock stars, sports, or computers they donít want anything to do with it. The Octagon Barn in Gagetown was contacted as well but never gave me a reply. They host a Fall Farm Festival every September that always has tractors and equipment on display but donít ever just have a featured make and model. The Octagon Barn shows draw huge crowds. My grandfather and his brother were part of the crew that built it. He had an 80 acre farm just northeast a few miles of the barn and was the first person in Huron County, Michigan to own a brand new 1939 Ford-Ferguson 9N Tractor. Purchased in November, 1939, I now own it and all the original implements that he got with it. I am restoring it as a tribute to him and my uncles. Perhaps if we start planning now, we may be able to secure a venue for the 100th anniversary/birthday in 2039.

  • Gather at a WalMart or similar; people can trailer in their tractors. Might not be as spectacular but it would still be an event. With social media, we can get the word out in just a day and have people showing up; and there are still the old voice communicators.
