  • i have likely over complicated this: When the 8n is at idle is the throttle governor arm with spring at the 12 oclock position? i cannot get the idle to be below 800 unless i disconnect the linkage. i do need to check the preload on the spring but need to check again.

    thanks

  • No worries on the pic I am going to set the linkage all the way to the front stop. And work it from there with the idle.

  • Mine is closer to the 1 o'clock position when running at an idle.

  • I would remove the short rod from gov to carb, put throttle all the way down in the idle direction, place carb lever against the idle stop and then adjust the rod to fit.

  • i guess its like this. new carb, linkage, and governor. is the length of the throttle linkage adjusted before the carb idle screw. i can manually operate the governor and it rotates to about the 1:oo(front) and dies. i am trying to determine where it should rest when idling. right now the idle screw does nothing in or out. i have read the I.T. manual and it only talks about the spring preload.

  • Throttle shaft and shaft bushings in carb most likely worn and as result any side tension as with linkage will pull it to side and not allow throttle plate to close because it touched bore.
