I suspect the wet weather is partly to blame. It's been much wetter than normal for at least the last 20 months. Then again, my front distributor 2N sits right next to the 8N and has zero problems with points. I have not touched the distributor on that tractor in more than 2 years. That may be because the front distributor has good gaskets for the cap and coil. The water pump on the 8N has a leak, so a spritz of antifreeze added to the wet weather may be enough to cause non-conductive deposits on the points. I did put an experienced set of points in it that appeared to be better quality than was in there. It's supposed to rain every day for the next week or so. Not sure when I'll get a chance to run it again. Too early to tell if changing the points will make any difference. Swapping-out that leaky water pump is on my to-do list, hopefully before the fan comes loose and tears up the radiator.
