  • Clutch adjustment
  • When in gear and I depress the clutch on my 9n about 75% of the time it doesn't stop/disengage unless I hit the brakes. At first I thought it was just a "sticky" clutch from sitting so long, but now I'm beginning to think that the clutch is just worn. I took up all the adjustment in the clutch pedal rod and still no luck. Is it time to split the tractor, or is there some other adjustment I can make? Thanks!

  • Usually when a clutch is worn they won't hold. The disc has become so thin there isn't enough spring in the pressure plate to hold it. Symptom does seem more like a sticky clutch than a worn clutch. Look for goo coming out the cotter wobble hole under the clutch housing. Any "stuff" coming out that hole may be turning into glue on your clutch and pressure plate. Another possible cause could be in the linkage. Look carefully at all linkage parts for something loose or cracked. It may help to have someone stomp on the pedal while you watch the linkage.

  • Thank you. I believe it's oil getting on the clutch. I'll try some brake cleaner for now.

  • Re: Brake cleaner?
  • Ok, so how do I get the brake cleaner on the clutch plate? Do I need to remove the starter? Thanks.
