  • If you don't have a lathe put it in a drill press and spin it, hold a piece of 200 grit emery cloth on the commutator and get it cleaned up. Put in a new set of brushes and you should be good.

  • One should really undercut between each segment. I would take it to a repair shop where they could check the armature for shorts and turn it down right, money well spent as far as I am concerned.

  • They can all be rebuilt. Rust cans damage the insulation to the field windings. Makes the cost to rebuild high compared to just buying a good starter.

  • probably. depends mostly on haw many times the commutator has been cut.
