  • Changing drag links
  • Woewoe is a late '47 8N. The steering box must be replaced in the not too distant future. While researching, I learned that if the box is replaced by the later model box, the drag links must also be replaced. Is this true? If so why and is there a way around it?

  • I changed my 49 to the later box just change drag links side to side. Go to John Smith's site that's where I got information.

  • HiYa Cloud-
Technically the 8N is a '48, early steering box used from '48-'50. John Smith once said after doing one of his early box rebuilds if he ever did it again he'd go and install a late box. You are correct that early boxes and late boxes are different, but don't know if any other changes are required. The SEP 1952 MPC has a chart with all the drag links, so if you want a better picture, get out your copy to see. Lengths are factory references only, not etched in stone, so actual lengths will vary, but gets you a starting point.

  • Is not the dash board also different between early and late? and then again with the proof meter?

  • I believe you are correct. A small portion of the lower dashboard must be removed for the later box to fit.
