  • fuel shut off
  • i have a 600 series that has a couple fuel issues. the carb i think i have figured out but the fuel shut off is killing me. i replaces the one that was in with one from TSC, they have been kind enough to replace them as they begin to leak. the surface of the tank is clean and free of rust the o ring is seated nicely. would a fuel shut off from say YT or Just 8N's be better quality?

  • I have picked up new gas shut offs for the 600/601 for TSC. two leaked right out of the box and when you do get a good one they don't seem to last more then a year or two. Most places are buying for the same place so it's hard to say who has better quality. I never was a fan of how ford routed the gas line thru the manifold or what a pain it was to turn them on and off. Once I get a good one on I leave in turned on and reroute the line in front of engine and add a shut off that's easy to get to instead of under the tank. If the tank is bad I'll get an NAA tank or even the 600/601 aftermarket tanks come with dual hook ups so I'll use the side hook up that uses the same sediment bowl as the 8n and leave the one under the middle plugged.

  • I used the plastic in-line shutoff on two of my tractors---I've got in-line fuel filters in the lines at the carb, but after the shutoff (makes filter replacement and carb work easier)---then I just leave the tank shutoff alone---works well for me.

  • The new aftermarket Hundred Series fuel shutoff valves are notorious for leaking. Dennis Carpenter is working on the problem; getting one made exact-as-original that doesn't leak. I wouldn't buy kitty litter from TSC let alone any tractor parts, what few they offer. They are NOT at a 'tractor supply store' anymore. They are a glorified, overpriced bird food and clothing outlet. Their SAE 80 hyd oil is the cheapest on the market, that's all I can say, but I buy from NAPA now. Once again understand that YTMAG IS NOT A PARTs STORE! They are a web site only, and sell parts from various suppliers who sponsor their web site. STEINERS and a few others sell the Carpenter stuff too, most with markup. Just8Ns sells all the Carpenter stuff but don't geek you on pricing. Try Carpenter or Just8Ns.

  • Oh, yeah, it's your tractor, your money so do what you want. If you want to go to TSC every week for a new valve be my guest. You asked, I replied...

  • no way are you kidding me i'm afraid the dang thing is going to catch fire. i was just looking at Carpenter's web site. i picked up a rebuild for a TSX 765 from Just 8N's and did the carb over. the needle was different than the one that was in there. so far it seems to be working. however on Carpenter's web site i looked at the rebuild kit and theirs had the needle like what i took out. i'm confused.

  • Yep, carb kits today are supplied by various suppliers - some have revamped needle float valves. They went from a 2-piece OEM design to a 3-piece design (why reinvent the wheel?) and the main jet and Throttle Idle screws are always being changed. I get the TISCO kits that have the 2-piece float valves and I will not use the plastic venturiis or floats. I am working on a TSX-241 carb right now that I had bought a fleabay special aftermarket kit from. Well, the choke plate is steel or tin and didn't fit, and bent up easily. The screw holes didn't line up so I took a used OEM brass one and installed it no problem. It does matter where you buy from.

  • Interesting post. My son has an NAA and had problem this week-end with gas leak. Bought a new shutoff from TSC. It leaks too. I told him these are often "loosly" assembled and you need to tighten bowl clamp and knob screw.
I'm waiting to hear if it is fixed.

    Very likely.
