  • Auxiliary Transmission
  • Hello! The 8N I recently purchased came equipped with an auxiliary transmission. At first, I thought it was a Hupp, being on the right side, but now I'm not so sure. Now I'm thinking maybe it's an F&T?

I've found very little information about the F&T, but based on a picture I found online of the handle, it appears similar.

Thought I'd run it by the experts .

    Thanks!
    Trish

  • That looks identical to the handle on the F&T overdrive that is in my 2N. I split the tractor to do some engine work, and took the auxiliary apart to see if it needed any work. If it looked bad I would have pulled it out and replaced with an original input shaft rather than try to find parts. Mine looked fine, and bearings were good, so I put it back together and left it in there. The transmission uses straight-cut gears, so it's noisy, but works good. My shift handle turned out to be brass. After removing 14 layers of old paint I decided to polish the handle.

Here's a couple pages of info I found about the F&T. Maybe the admins can add these to the manuals area.

The handle on the first page looks a little different, but the guts of mine are identical to the brochure. I suspect the handle and other parts may have gone through several changes.

  • Yep, looks a lot like that! Thanks very much for the reference pic. All I've been able to find is the ad sheet over at https://fordtractorcollectors.com/ft-overdrive/ . Does anyone have any additional information on this?

    Best,
    Trish

  • Some make of an overdrive, I bet. That handle is more horizontal. I'm thinking Hupp. What does it do to roadspeed?

  • Re: Auxiliary Transmission
  • I meant the F&T handle is more horizontal. Sorry. The one in the picture is more vertical.
