  • HELLO N FORUM members,
have a 2N tractor that has issues with lift system, have found a blown gasket on left hand chamber assembly ,repaired installing new gaskets .got lift operating ok , nice and smooth .noticed that the load (600-800 lbs.) did not stay up when motor was off load in the up position, never has ,saw fluid leaking from rear of cylinder, OK worked at picking up a logs and and the lift barley moved it. , parked it , with 200 lbs. on hitch ,took inspection cover plates all looked as was, when installed new gaskets on now when lift is up position it shudders as it is lifting now .if the shudder are from the valves, are there any signs or how can I tell which one is to blame other than looking at valve faces and valve seats after a pump tear down .

  • The cylinder oil leak-down test tells you it's time to replace the cylinder and the piston. That requires pulling the top cover. It's not a difficult task, just time consuming. Get a helper. Get the NAA-530 Piston with rubber O-RING. Get a new safety relief valve as well and gasket kit. Here's a very good DIY video on Ford Hydraulic Repair. They start on a 9N/2N which is a different setup than the 8N. It is done by J&D Productions who now have Dan's daughter Rachel with her "Wrenching With Rachel" videos. We have a HOW-TO's forum on the 8N system that may offer some advice as well.
