  • 860 Spin on oil filter
  • Asking to learn the correct oil filter (spin on) to use on my 860. the PO filter was destroyed during removal. NAPA sold me a 1515 Gold filter . It seems to work with no leaks. It looks too small for the hole. A 1515 filter dia is about 3 3/4" dia. The mounting plate is about 5"dia.

  • I actually went the other way. This early 3 cylinder 4000 engine had a spin on adapter on it when I got it.
The early ones had a neat little drip lip that bolted on under the filter so I went back to the canister type just to use it.
Most of them were taken off and lost.

  • All my tractors have been converted to Spin On. I use Motorcraft FL-1A filters. SoS.

  • thanks why do you use Motorcraft FL-1A vs NAPA 1452,1515, Purolator, Fram, etc? The price of this filter on Amazon is less than $4.00 delivered! Is it a high quality filter?

    Not being offensive just curious.

  • Because it is a Ford part. I scour the world to obtain vintage New Old Stock filters, Breaker Points, Condensers, Caps Rotors, for all my tractors and vintage vehicles that were made when quality was indeed Job 1. The GM built vehicles in my collection get genuine AC and Delco parts when the two divisions were separate. No AC/Delco brand. I do however use current production Motorcraft FL1-A oil filters on the tractors, cars, and trucks if I am out of NOS. It's just another one of the Methods of My Madness. SoS.

  • If gasket sealing surfaces align, then all is well for the most part. Other factors are anti-drain-back & check valving in some applications.

  • I don't modify to 'spin-on'. Just use OEM canister type, which is a 1010 cartridge. Added cost for once a year 'convenience' does not fit me personally. For those that it does fit, good for ya.
As a side note, auto makers & filter makers have been using/making filters that fit same base smaller & smaller over the years, claiming same performance.
