  • Polarizing a positive ground generator
  • I have a 1946 2N Ford tractor. When i bought it it was set up as a negative ground system i want to put it back to a positive ground system. The generator i have on it seams to not work so i bought a new one and a new cut out. My question is do i have to polarize them and if so how do i do it on a positive ground system. Its a single pole generator. It seams the only wiring i can see that was changed was the battery and cut out. Looking for any info on doing this.
    Thanks Rich

  • If you had a 12V battery and cutout and generator, wiring may have been mucked up. Check it now and be sure it is correct. The 9N after s/n 132500 and all 2Ns used the 1-Wire/3-Brush 11 amp generator with the cutout. Also, it is necessary to have a belt tensioning device. Here is the original belt tensioner and wiring diagrams. Polarizing the 9N/2N generator with cutout is to arc spark the cutout BAT terminal to the ARM terminal. If you still have your OEM 2N generator, I may want to buy it. Email is open.

  • Forgot to mention this is a 6 Volt system and would like to keep it that way.

  • Yes you said that in your initial post. I forgot to insert my email so it is now here in this post.
