Time for a final update on the 860. Some of you may remember my former posts. Last August I drove it into the machine shed and replaced the gasket between the transmission and center housing. When I got that done I climbed on it to drive it out. It would not start!
Long story short -- A new distributor fixed the problem! I had taken a hold of the top of the distributor shaft and could not feel any movement. However on taking the point gap setting on all four lobes I found readings of: .010; .014; .016; and .026!
After that I pulled the distributor. Holding the bottom of the shaft I could feel a lot of side to side motion.
I bought a barnyard Model T Ford before my 16th birthday in May of 1946 and got it running. Have worked on a lot of engines over the years but have never had anything as confusing as this was. I only hope someone else will take a lesson!
