  • Howse & Hico 500 Rotary Cutter Blade Bolts
  • Wondering if anyone has a 'trick' to remove these bolts. I want to replace or sharpen blades, I'm reluctant to sharpen without removing them, because of difficulty accessing blade edge with grinder underneath mower.
I've tried the PB blaster soak/wait/pneumatic tool/soak/wait....etc etc.
Next up is tacking blade bolts to blades underneath and using big ole breaker bar or removing the whole Flywheel Assy which is corroded as well.
Threads on all 3 bolts are visible but corroded as mentioned.
I've tried all the common sense, obvious methods as I mentioned. Thanks

  • Have you confirmed the direction of the bolt threads? My brush mower blade bolts are left-hand threaded.

  • I soaked them with PB Blaster for 4 days and then rocked them back and forth with my impact gun until they broke free. It took a while, but they came off.

  • Have you tried using heat, a burnsomatic hand torch with MAP gas would probably be a good option along with the p/b blaster. Good luck, I know how frustrating stuck bolts can be. I always coat them with never seize after I get them out, also put in new bolts, don't reuse the old ones. God Bless Beth and Allen.
