First, put on your Safety Glasses. The retainer clips are assembled best with this method. It’s how I developed it based on experience. Get a pair of needle nose pliers and a good medium blade standard screwdriver. The MPC states that three clips are used but I’ve found four are better. On your bench, put your glasses on, then align the lamp, if original-type, with the FORD logo at the top of bezel ring, centered with the bezel clamp screw hole. While holding lamp steady take one clip and place one leg into lip of bezel then with fingers or pliers screwdriver pry other leg into lip. Hold steady. Take a 2nd clip and place about 180° apart and place it like the first one. The third clip is inserted like the first and second, a fourth can be used too. The key is to know the shell has a tang with a tapped hole at the top (12 O’Clock) for the bezel screw and a tang at the bottom of shell (6 O’Clock) for securing the bezel in place. Slipping the clips in place is also the key. The 2nd leg makes it tough and sometimes you can fling the clip off and thus the need for safety glasses. Get the lamps secured to the bezel before attaching the socket if OEM bullet style bulb is used or to the two terminal screws if a sealed beam lamp is used. See if this helps.

I gave up with the clips--used silicone sealant
my light does not have a hole in the attaching bolt, nor any other hole
I fished a wire thru a very small opening at the bottom near attaching lug, but I was concerned that insulation would wear thru and short out, so I drilled it out to accept a grommet
what is wiring routing from light to ignition switch? I see routing clip in wheel well and on left side of trans, but then what??
