  • Awesome Henry 8N Conversion to Ford Flathead V8
  • I hate to keep bothering Dave back at Awesome Henry but I'm running into questions. Has anyone built one of these that I can email with?

I'm thinking I have to use the original flywheel from the tractor, it looks like it will bolt on to the crank of the flathead.

The starter off the flathead does not match up to the Awesome adapter ring, so I'm guessing I need a tractor starter but 12 volt.

When I first assembled the flathead to the tractor for fitment the clutch was a little more than an inch away from the pressure plate, is the tractor flywheel thicker maybe an 1 1/4 or more thick?

And I'm sure there's more I just haven't got to that point yet.

Any help is greatly appreciated. You can email me direct at dave.davesgarage@icloud.com

  • If I had paid them money for the kit, I wouldn't hesitate to ask for all the support that I needed to install it. Just me.

  • I used the V8 flywheel, and had to drill and tap new holes so the tractor pressure plate and clutch assembly would bolt-up. I did not use a kit. None were available when I started the project. My adapter plate needed to be 1-1/2" thick for everything to fit and work with the tractor clutch linkage and transmission input shaft. The V8 starter is similar to the tractor starter but mounts on the opposite side of the engine. In order to avoid hacking the transmission housing for starter drive clearance, I used a gear reduction starter that engages from the engine side. The chronic flathead cooling problems were addressed by using a bigger radiator, upgraded water pumps from Summit, and an electric fan.

  • Super job on recording everything for the V8 conversion! I'm impressed. You must feel very satisfied after completing this project.

  • That is awesome! Just one question. Did you have any sleepless nights thinking about solutions to making things fit? LOL

  • Don't think I lost any sleep, but I got a real appreciation for the effort that goes into any custom work. By the time a project like that is done, everything has been assembled at least 4 times.

  • A local guy I know did one a few years back. He is trying to overcome overheating and low oil pressure issues. He isn't to computer savvy so him contacting you won't happen. Maybe I can drill him about your issues or you can bother Awesome Henry to help with your issues.
