  • Were installation instructions provided in the original accessory headlight kit?Anyone have them? I did not find them in the Manuals page.

  • Yes, lighting kits were supplied with a parts list and sketch on installation. Detailed instructions were never listed -you had to go by the sketch which was pretty detailed. Beginning with the July, 1947 8N MPC and up, the lighting kit was shown in full detail listing parts and showing the layout of the wiring. I have an OEM sheet from the first 1939 9N lights, the early 8N lights, and the later 8N lights. The sheets are 17" x 22" so scanning on your standard printer isn't feasible. 20 years ago I made copies of the sheets from the industrial printer we used in our engineering department and printed them out on our plotter. I may have some copies stashed somewhere. You can work with the MPC pages too but deciphering the wiring path can be tricky. The 8N has a template for the light switch hole 7-O'Clock to the AMMETER. The 39-53 MPC has lighting kit sketches. I have picture of one of my sheets I took with my camera but you can't read it.

  • Hi Tim, I have an unknown date 8n (engine serial *9NI00I09*) I just bought and I'm trying to get the light wiring straightened out. I got the new wiring from walts tractors but I'm unsure of where to hook it up for power etc. Any chance of finding one of those 17x22's? I understand the whole thing, was in engineering at a company in Minnesota. got a scanner by chance? Thanks Darrin

  • FORD Myth #3: A 12V System is an 'upgrade'. FALSE. Turning slow wouldn't be caused by a 6V battery. 12V would help with faster starting with a worn engine but other than that not due to 6V if compression is good. A 'new' battery doesn't mean it is a good battery. Was it tested under load at a shop for specific gravity? EI only eliminates the use of points and one wrong move and they're toast -never had a need or want for them myself. Iceland or New Hampshire -doesn't matter. I live in Michigan - cold 9 months a year. I never had a need or desire for 12V Ford tractor. Fords have run on 6V/POS GRN for 118 years. Fellas just fail to understand the 6V system and subscribe to all teh myths and fallacies they hear.

  • Tim, Thanks for that info. I totally agree with the whole 6 volt to 12 volt issue but I was just referencing your earlier post about the light wiring and images you posted. The 17x22 original instructions you have. I would be interested in a copy if you ever find one.
    Thanks
    Darrin
