  • 9N 12v Conversion
  • Bought a 9N for use and perhaps restoration.
    Problem is it had a badly done 12 v conversion. Mostly a rats nest of wires here and there to make it workish. I rewired and every thing works now except the belt. The alternator keeps throwing the belt now. Is there a good alternator mounting conversion kit out there? This one was a home job that worked on, the whatever alternator they had laying around, but does not work with the one wire alternator I bought to replace it and also puts the it out over top and dangerously close to the steering knuckle( a good dip and I bet I need another alternator) . Im stumped because the alignment looks straight. Lines up straight with a straight edge but still throws the belt even at idle. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance

  • If it was mine, I would pull all the 12 volt stuff off and put it back to original. The Old Girl has always started without any problems at 6v and Rural King has six volt batteries.

  • Does the alternator have the right size pulley? Most come with 1/2" groove, needs to be 5/8" groove to fit the belt on the tractor. Pulley

  • Thanks for the help. I was able to use the old alternator pulley on the new alternator and it works. Was able to drive it around for the first time in years. Now to fix the rest of the broken stuff. Mainly the seal at and around the left side lower 3 point arm mount.

  • I checked it. It does not. You are correct on the 1/2" probably a good part of the problem. Going to order the other pulley and give that a shot.
