  • Replacement water pump
  • I received my replacement water pump today and found that the impeller is opposite direction of the original...I checked as I had remembered reading about similar issues on this board.
Searching the archives it looks like some of you had installed these pumps even with the opposite directed impellers. I am curious if anyone had any feedback on whether they functioned properly (decent circulation/cooling) or if it caused issues? Trying to decide if I should return mine or install it?
    Thanks in advance

  • Whoah that guy went to a lot of work but produced that ole picture that is worth a thousand words.

But ya know, Maybe that "backwards water" is not as cold. :)

  • I ran this question by my friend (a pump engineer).

He replied that flow is severely compromised by the wrong impeller curvature or rotation.

He suggests NOT using this pump.

  • Interesting read, thanks for posting it.
The one I removed from my 8n was an 8 vane like in the picture and the replacement is a 6 vane like the picture. If I am reading it correctly, the post would suggest my replacement is original style and the one I removed was not.
Either way, looks like they are both commonly used so will give it a try.
    Thanks again for the reply

  • You are welcome. I agree with Jamison in that the 9N, 2N, 8N pump does not really look much like a real centrifugal pump & is probably why just about any impeller will work. I would like to see more details of the NAA pump.....maybe the same set up & maybe more like a centrifugal....who knows.

  • I have not ran a backwards/wrong pump. I would not. Where did you get it? I could never trust any company selling a part that is so clearly and obviously wrong.

  • I have been getting my parts thru Steiner as our local parts store (excellent service) is a distributor....Also saves a lot of hassle and $$ in shipping ect to northern Canada.
Normally I wouldnt have even questioned the direction and would have just installed it but I remember reading on this site that other posters have had the same issue. I believe their posts stated that they had inquired back to their suppliers and were assured it would be fine so they went ahead and installed them.
I was curious of the outcome.
Doesnt seem right but makes me wonder if it happens more then people know and that they simply dont check for the issue (difficult to see)?
