  • Tractor jack
  • I put an ad up for a Dearborn Tractor Jack to use with my 8N, no responses so am thinking of making one based on the drawings in the How to section. Am wondering if anyone knows what the wall thickness is on the sizes of tubes shown.

  • Steve, There are two tractor jacks for sale in the current issue of N-News. Not mine. They won't last long at the price being asked.

  • HiYa Steve! I've been emailing you and calls all go to "mailbox not set up". Important you contact me either way.

For the Tractor Jack - here is the document Cargo Cult wrote years ago on a DIY one...but originals pop up on the Board ADS and ebay all the time.

By Cargo Cult's design, he use 7/8", 1-1/16", and 1-1/4" tubing so I'd assume it is standard schedule piping. I don't have access to my original Dearborn Jack right now el se I could go measure with my Starrett Tubing Mic for you. LINK to Jack

  • Hi Tim,
Not sure why voicemails do not respond-I switched to Xfinity mobile from Verizon, but they run on Verizon's system and I get VM's on the mailbox I had with Verizon, Xfinity wanted me to set up a VM, but since calls seem to work with the old setup I have never bothered. Most of my calls come from within CA so maybe out of state doesn't work. Xfinity is kind of flaky but lots cheaper than Verizon. Phone number is still the 510 one and email is still the same. I'll send one to your's next week.

The plans for the jack are really clear, but steel tubing usually comes in differing wall thickness I think, I doubt they used schedule based pipe. The plans don't show that, although the ends used for attachment to lifting arms should be open and the wall thickness of those easily measured, and that should be a pretty good clue to the thickness used elsewhere on the various members. Just thought about that this morning.

Good to see you on the Board. I'll try to get back to you next week.

  • I was in the process of using that that document to model up a jack, but for some reason, didn't get it finished. Now that I'm retired, I no longer have access to a 3D modeling and drafting software and those type of softwares are very expensive.

I wish I could have completed the model and created the 2D drawing for it, but I didn't.

  • Made by the K-P Mfg Co and was one the most innovative features invented for the FORD N Series Tractors. This device was the best thing to quickly change out your wheels/tires with. I used mine all the time switching from my "work clothes" to my "show/church clothes" when I took my 8N to shows and put all the original parts on it. A one-man operation, but would caution anyone using one to always make sure you are not in a spot where you will get trapped against a wall, under a wheel, or get a wheel from out under you. ALWAYS ensure that you have access to the IGN KEY SWITCH, the Touch Control Quadrant Lever, and the PUSHBUTTON START. Getteh lift wher yoiu wnatitand shut down engine. If your hydraulics are weak and in need of a rebuild, you will drift down some. By simply bumping the pushbutton start with no KEY on it will raise the lift back up to where it was set. One thing we know for sure, this device would NOT be allowed on the market today as OSHA would make sure of that.

  • Tractor jacks come up for sale every once and a while. I've could have bought a couple, one was posted somewhere on the web recently (I forget where). You can also try Craig's List, ebay or facebook market place.

They're a neat piece to own for your collection and to take to tractor shows, and even demonstrate.

    Good luck on your search.
