  • Need a Ford 2000 Mechanic Near Charlottesville
  • Hi,

My FIL has a Ford 2000 in a field in Howardsville, VA (just south of Charlottesville). He doesn't run it very often and as a result has issues getting it running. His local farmer/mechanic has retired so he's looking for someone to work on it. Please let me know if you know of anyone in that area willing to drive to the tractor and work on it. I can handle most issues on my 8N, but don't know enough to tackle his 2000.

    Thanks,

    Rick

  • You should always mention if the 2000 is a 1962-64 four cylinder model or a 1965- 75 three cylinder model.
That said, maybe try it your self?
If you can keeep an N running you can keep a 2000 running. They are not so different after all. Like, points are points and carbs are carbs and testing for spark or fuel is pretty much the same for any tractor except maybe if it is a diesel.
I had a couple of Ns and managed to keep them going. Then I bought a 3 cylinder 2000 and found that though it was different, it wasnt THAT different from an N. In fact is seemed rather familiar after all.

  • Thank you. Didn't know there were two types. It is the latter. I would/may try to work on it, but I live two hours north of Charlottesville. If we can't find someone to work on it I'll give it a shot.

  • I stopped at an old auto parts store when I got my first 8N/and asked the old feller where I might find a mechanic to work on mine. He said look in the mirror and you'll find one. There are a lot of tractor wisdom on this site. That's where I started learning.

    You can do it,

    LeRoy

  • Thank you. I would like to work on it, but live two hours north of Charlottesville, so not easy to get down there often.
