  • Early 39 9N transmission numbers
  • Hi all! I’ve been collecting 9Ns for a few years. I currently have four ‘39s and one ‘41. This past weekend I picked up a ‘39 with a transmission number stamped “80”. The engine has been swapped out at some point in the past. I’ve seen on the 9N registry that there are engines with serial numbers lower than 80, but i’m curious as to how many transmissions are out there with a number stamped lower than 80. Please chime in if you have seen any of these early 39 transmissions and pics of the numbers would be great!

  • That’s an early stamping. Was there an LR also stamped somewhere on the flange? There was no rhyme or reason on the order they were used. Case in point, Joel and Paul Wilber have #90 with 183 Trans and #91 with 186 trans. I have #388 with 187 trans. It was typical for the trans numbers to be within a few hundred numbers of the engine numbers. That being said I would say it’s of an aluminum hood tractor. If you want to send me some photos of the tractor from all sides I can tell you some early things to look for. Kirk9N546@gmail.com
