I need a new shut off valve for my Ford 600. I know about rebuilding with a new O'ring and have done that. It seems like from most posts that they are all junk. Can anyone suggest a reliable source. Thanks

  • I've replaced several of the shut off valves on my 640. Pain in the tookass. Always wondered why they moved the location from off to the side of the tank on the Ford Jubilee/NAA to directly under the middle of the tank. I never had to service the shut off valve on the Jubilee. Much easier to get too and not over top the hot motor.

Ebay has aftermarket gas tanks that give you the option to use the "Jubilee/NAA" location on the tank. But you'd have to get a new shut off assembly and reroute the gas line.

    Just another option,

  • I have not worked on that fuel system before before so take this with a grain of salt.
This is a valve that attaches to the bottom of the tank with a couple of bolts., Is that correct?
And I believe there is rather limited room between the tank and valve cover?
I would think a guy could take a scrap of aluminum, a drill and a pipe tap and manufacture an adapter plate to bolt on where the shut off originally was.
Add a street elbow and an inline ball valve somewhere easily accessible between the elbow and the carb to stop the fuel flow.
Of course, I do not restore tractors but I do fix leaks and will make simple mods if they will solve the problem of poorly made aftermarket parts.

  • Hello, UD. It's been awhile.

You are correct about the valve.

Some time ago, a poster (YT, FB or both) posted about an adapter that he had machined from aluminum that bolted to the tank using the same two bolts and O ring as the original valve. The adapter was machined for an elbow allowing one to connect one's own fuel line having a shutoff valve downstream. For a while he sold a few on, IIRC, eBay. It looked to be well made. I do not know if he still makes them.

Before I sold out and relocated, I had become somewhat of an expert at changing vintage Ford tractor tank valves without removing either tank or rocker arm cover and could change one in less than 30 minutes, exclusive of R & R-ing the fuel.

  • Unless things have changed recently, there are none.

  • I have used Dennis Carpenter in the past with good results, though I don't know if I ever bought a shut off valve for my 640.
