2N with starters and magnetos
I have a 2N that I am currently trying to bring back to original. Went to a tractor show this past weekend featuring Ferguson and Ford. I saw about 3 2N's with mag and steel wheels pretty much original. What I was curious about was why they all had their starters still in the tractor??? I'm thinking it is to just bump the starter to turn it over???? Is this possible???? Can you do this without damage to the magneto??? Thanks

Re: 2N with starters and magnetos
One or the other is non original. Steel wheels were an option as was the "electrical delete" that deleted everything electrical. The WWII 2N had both of these options, no more, no less.

Re: 2N with starters and magnetos
Think of the magneto in place of the Distributer, no difference using starter or crank. No it will not hurt anything.

Re: 2N with starters and magnetos
So, you could use the starter to start it?? If so, I guess I will put mine back on just so I won't break my thumb, or hand in the cranking process. I for one am not getting any younger or stronger. Thanks again....

Re: 2N with starters and magnetos
Tom, in case you have not already seen it, we have a very informative document in our Manuals library that covers the differences between the "Warhorse 2N" and later 2Ns.

Re: 2N with starters and magnetos
Thanks Ed. I have looked at this information on the 2N. Yes, very informative. Mine had all the electrics when I got it and the more I looked at it the more I found it as to be an original 2N Warhorse. The hole in the dogleg for the choke rod. The different front axle. The double throw choke shaft on the carb. The serial number, 111677 makes it a 43 Warhorse. When it was made, it was a Warhorse. Someone put electric, rubber tires, starter. Now I am putting it back to original, hopefully. I have everything I need to do it, mag, angle drive, steel wheels, took me forever to find these things. Now, my next step is to fire it up. I just saw these 2Ns with the starters at the show still on and wondered if it can be started with the mag. on and not damage anything. I really didn't want to hand crank it for the first time starting as it has been sitting for a little while. Thanks to all....
