8N weight distribution
I have a guy tell me that when the 8N was designed Ford made changes to try and balance the front to back weight distribution. I can't find anywhere that happened and since basically the 8N is the same as a 2N forward of the transmission, minus a few cosmetic changes to the hood, dash, etc. I would think the weight distribution would be the same. In fact, maybe more on the 8N to the rear than before with the added position control and 4 speed. Anyone have thoughts on this? Thanks.

Re: 8N weight distribution
I have sold several Ns at auction. A non-running N could be picked up with a single lift point, down through the steering wheel and around the transmission flange where bolted to the engine. Definitely the rear end is heavier but never did any damage to the steering wheel or to the dash. If the tires are loaded, then very much heavier.

Re: 8N weight distribution
Back half of the tractor is heavier than the front on all N Tractors

Re: 8N weight distribution
What this guy was saying was Ford address the weight distribution on the 8N, but I see no evidence of this and even the manuals don't support this. Basically the 9N, 2N and 8N had roughly 40% front and 60% rear weight distribution. If Ford address this with the 8N, then the numbers would be closer together, front to back. I think the guy was thinking of the larger tractor Harry Ferguson wanted, the experimental NP7 (which I think became the Fordson E27N) made some headway in that. The guy quoted Harold Brock, but he did work on the NP7 and also went to England to work with Fordson.

Re: 8N weight distribution
I meant to say the Fordson 4P, not the NP7. I'm getting the 4P mixed up with the 7NX, which was the codename for the development of the 8N.
