  • I am thinking about adding live hydraulics to my 8N. Excellent article on this sight on how to do it.

I do have a question though.

If I had the live hydraulic pump and power a loader, will I still need to chain down the 3 point in order to use the loader?

    thanks for your help.

  • Brian, are you referring to Kevin LaRue's tutorial? If so, I believe that his solution replaces the internal hydraulic pump rather than supplementing it for other operations. If I am right, then yes, you would need to chain your rear lift down to operate a front-end loader.

If you want to install a loader, an alternative that most folks use is to install a pump to the front pulley and run it from the crankshaft. You will need a separate valve to control loader operation and a dedicated supply for hydraulic fluid, which is usually stored in the frame of the loader.

If you are using Kevin's tutorial, you can email him directly to confirm at kl@myfordtractors.com.

  • After a few posts, I think I have this. I will add a single acting control valve. Run the output of the engine mounted pump to the IN on the control valve. OUT on the control valve will go to the test port. The cylinders will run off of the WORK port of the control valve. No need to chain the 3 point.
