8N not charging
Hey everyone, '51 8N with side mount dist and 2-brush 3-wire generator. I just put new brushes in the generator, and it motors fine, and I polarized it (probably wrong: first jumped bat/fld, then jumped bat/gen), but isn't charging the battery. I think it's a bad regulator. I followed all the tests here in the attached link, but that didn't help/change anything. The meter reading didn't move at all during any of the tests. Bad regulator?

Re: 8N not charging
If you jumped the BAT to the FLD connector, you fried the voltage regulator. BAT to GEN is the jump to polarize the charging system.

Re: 8N not charging
Thanks. Should I get Echlin from NAPA, or Brillman? Also, what is the correct polarizing procedure?

Re: 8N not charging
I would get mine here. That said, my local Napa stocks parts for my '52, and I've gotten tune-up parts and more and been happy with them. To polarize - look at the last page of the document that you referenced in your initial post. It has a diagram and instructions there. You will touch a jumper wire (screwdriver, etc.) briefly (just until you get the first spark) between the BAT and GEN connectors on the regulator.
