  • Two problems...
  • I'm having a difficult time finding part numbers for the 2 tie link boots on each side of a 1950 Ford 8N. Also what is the best way to remove a stubborn steering wheel on the same tractor? I've tried heat and a big ball pin hammer. Thanks in advance for your help!

  • A lot of folks have gotten the steering wheel off by loosening (NOT removing) the steering wheel retaining nut, standing on the running boards and pulling up on one side and then the other. When it pops free, you'll understand why you did not want to remove that retaining nut.

It's been a couple of decades since I removed mine, but I used a large, 3-jaw puller. I took a bolt with a head on it that was wide enough to prevent it from falling down the steering shaft, drilled a small detent in the top middle of it to keep the point of the puller from sliding around, and placed it at the top of the steering shaft. It worked like a champ.

    Good luck with it........Ed

  • I couldn't find the boots on Just 8n's website, but I see Dennis Carpenters' website shows them.

I can't help with part numbers, but it appears they were the same from 1939-1957.

Hit the link and scroll down to find tie rod and drag link boots.
