  • REST-O-RIDE ORIGINAL PATENT
  • Amazing original patent application for the Rest-O-Ride seat, though that term was coined by FORD engineers. The original name was called "the resilient seat structure" by the inventors as its use was intended for trucks, tractors, and possibly railroads. Fred (Grand Lake) found this on the Internet and you can go to the PDF file directly by clicking on the link below if you want to download a copy for yourself. The seven pages are here in our HISTORY archives below also. The application date is listed as 1954. FORD made these seats standard equipment beginning in 1955. The text explains the function of each and every part so don't be intimidated and read. Enjoy.

  • Re: REST-O-RIDE ORIGINAL PATENT
  • It'd be interesteing to know how both Ford and John Deere (& maybe more mfg's) used near identical size and shape rubber torque assy's. and identical adjuster devices on the Rest-O-Ride and Float Ride seats and both were introduced at about the same time period; (even though the rest of the seat structure between the two are totally different, and JD used a small shock absorber up front for added operator comfort).
