  • Tractor Accessories From Firestone
  • This is a page from a Firestone Farm Tire Sales Manual dated 1953. The ad is for an AM Radio that mounts on your tractor fender. It's hard to tell if many of these sold, though I did see an original, NOS, still in the box, radio a while back on one of the popular auction sites go for big bucks. Like all extra whistles and bells like this, you better get the hinged model so as not to whack it off mowing under trees, etc! Also, this was BEFORE transistors and the advent of solid state devices so the unit contains 8 TUBES!!!...must've been one hot tamale! ...and you thought they just made tires...Enjoy.

FYI: The Firestone and Ford families were related by marriage. Josephine, the sister of Henry II and William Clay I, married a Firestone.

  • I have one of these radios and the original manuel for it. It came from my great uncles farm and I don't know if it even works. The antenna is broken and the outside body and mast are painted Alis Charmer orange but it is all there and for sale. My phone # is 440-897-8631 and I live in NE Ohio. Ask for Todd

  • Re: Josephine Ford
  • Tim, Josephine married Ford not a Firestone

    "
Josephine Ford, born in 1923 to Edsel and Eleanor Ford, was the third of Henry and Clara Ford's four grandchildren. She married Walter Buhl Ford II, who came from another Ford family, and together they raised four children: Walter Buhl Ford III, Eleanor Clay Ford, Josephine Clay Ford and Alfred. Walter Buhl Ford II, a partner in the design firm Ford & Earl, died in 1991."

  • Re: William Clay Ford Jr - Firestone
  • William Clay Jr's father is William Clay Ford, Sr., and his mother is Martha Firestone. On his mother's side his grandparents are Harvey S. Firestone, Jr. and Elizabeth Parke Firestone.

  • Interesting - the Firestone radio add - look closely at the rear tires in the illustration. The tires are mounted backwards.
