  • Hey You NYS Farmers - ROPS REBATE
  • Hey All

I just got off the phone with NYS in regards to a Rebate/refund program about ROPS.

There is a 70% rebate/refund from NYS for the ROPS protection you buy for your Tractor.

There is no model or age limitation for this progarm, as long as it is a farm tractor, no lawn tractors.

The info was obtained from the , www.herculesrops.com site.

The NYS phone # is 1-800-343-7527.

You can have yours installed or do it yourself.

I can't believe this program is available in NYS, WOW :)>!!

I have to call back as the contact person, Barbara Bays is out for lunch.

I will Call back maybe later today or earlier tomorrow :)>>!!

Now there is NO REASON any of us tractor owners in NYS to not to get a ROPS system :))>>!!!

This is a Rare and exciting event for us in NYS.

Give them a call, I think it's worth it.

Sarge will get a ROPS as soon as I can get the money together :)>>!!!

Just a update to the ROPS available.

Scott F. e mailed me and said YT has the ROPS for $429 + $29 + $85, the last 2 figures for shipping and truck charge.

The ROPS that YT is selling is the same ROPS that is on the Hercules site that sells for $935 + $142.16 shipping to my house, qiute a difference :)>!!!

    Thought I'd mention It :)>>!!!

PS I got a e mail from Julie Sorensen from NYCAMH thanking me for putting this info out on this forum.

I don't do it for the praise but instead do it so we don't lose anyone else to a preventable accident :))>>!!!

Do you reckon that NYS could spare some of their huge wealth, and send some out here to us in "poor, old Montana"????????????

  • Ive never seen this brought up when ROPS are mentioned, so ill mention it now. Any tractor that has a ROPS is worthless unless the operator wears a seatbelt while on the tractor. In many cases when a tractor with ROPS flips over and the operator is not using a seat belt he ends up pinned underneath the ROPS. Kind of defeats the purpose.

  • Jonas' comments regarding ROPS without seatbelts are not entirely correct. Although it is true that seatbelts are necessary to assure the nearly 100% protective factor of the ROPS system, it is inaccurate for people to think that the ROPS provides little or no protection in the absence of a seatbelt. The seatbelt should always be worn, yet it is the general opinion of most safety experts that there is a reasonable chance for prevention of serious injury by the presence of the ROPS alone. There are copious amounts of research data which have been published on the topic of tractor overturns. Anyone interested in learning the facts regarding ROPS and overturn prevention can google National Tractor Safety Initiative (NIOSH). I would also mention that unilaterally, agricultural researchers agree that installing ROPS on all unprotected tractors is an absolute priority for farm fatality and injury prevention.

  • Hey Jonas

I can only let fellow tractor owners know what is available for them in New York State.

You can lead a horse to water but it's up to him or her if they are thirsty.

With so many farm accidents it is nice to know that New York State has a concious and is willing to help the farmer out not penalize hin or her.

Free will is a sign of a educated enviroment.

If you chose not to use what is available, it's your choice and fault :)>!!!!

I just thought it was a great program available to the farmer in NYS.

As far as what you do or don't do that's not my call :))>>>!!!!

I wear my seat belt where ever I go and knowing I can be safer on my tractor makes me glad that this program is available.

I just got a e-mail from the Hercules ROPS site that a ROPS sent to me in my part of the state with shipping will be around $850.00.

I checked the e-mail and the following is quoted:

1- #RMF103 ROPS for a 8N tractor is $710.60 and shipping via UPS to my door is $138.26, total $848.86.

I have not checked locally as to what is available.

This posting is meant as a heads up for tractor owners in NYS, not to endorse or site short commings of the ROPS system :)>!!!

  • Re: Hey You NYS Farmers - ROPS REBATE
  • I feel that maybe I have been misunderstood here.I would never argue the safety benefits of having a ROPS, im just trying to stress the fact that if one is used than a seat belt should also be used. This being taught to me when I took the NYS tractor safety course and the fact that this is also outlined on the Hercules website. The only reason that i would not put a rops on a my fords is that they are for show and and very light chores. We do own an Allis-Chalmers with a ROPS and I am very adament about my dad using a seat belt when it is in use. This coming from listening to a tractor safety instructor tell about watching his best friend get killed when he was pinned under a ROPS from not wearing a seat belt. I suppose i will keep my mouth shut from now on.

  • Hey Jonas

No one wants you to keep your mouth shut :)>!!!

You of anybody, taking the tractor safety course, should be promoting the use of ROPS, which includes in it's system the use of seat belts to be a complete ROPS for your tractor.

I am going to play devil's advocate now :)>!!!

The stats on vehicle accidents say most accidents happen within 25 miles from home !!!!!

Not having a ROPS on your light duty and parade tractors you are doing us all a disservice as you are a lot younger and I feel, I maybe wrong as some times I am, that the people both young and old at the parades you attend with your tractors would be asking questions about the Roll bar and seat belts on your tractor ???

You, the younger generation, are our future and we don't want to lose you or anyone else in a accident that could have been
    avoided :)>>>!!

That guy might have survived the accident that the instructor talks about or he may have hit his head so hard that he may not have survived, it's a catch 22 situation.

I just wanted to promote a great program for NYS farmers, large and small, so we can at least afford the ROPS to all interested in
    it :)>>!!!

I know there are people who think it's just a gimmick and think they will never need a ROPS on any of thier tractors, I just hope they are right :(

Jonas, hang in there, life is a challenge evry day :)>!!!
