SNAP was never intended to be a permanent handout but once something is given to someoone by taxpayers it is virtually impossible to take it away (until the entire system collapses as did the USSR, which is inevitable here in the US).

I once thought the inevitable collapse would not occur within my lifetime but no longer believe such.
