  • Attempting to get one of my sickle bar mowers working this spring. Have the information provided by Stumpy for making the lift arm extensions. Also have downloaded the pictures posted by Ed of his top link bracket on graph paper. Intend to fabricate a welded bracket and take it to the farm to install. Need exact measurements to do that.

    Thanks,

    Jack

  • You will also need the special stabilizer bracket that attaches to the right axle trumpet below the fender bolts. Hope this helps.

  • Thanks Rick,

I have two of those brackets so am well supplied. Bought two mowers at a sale and once I got them home I decided both are salvageable. Only worrying about one this spring. The other will come later as I have a possible sale for it.

  • The lift arm extensions are 8 3/4" long. I do not remembet the top link dimension, however they can be fabricated by measuring the width and hole size of the big pin of which the 3rd top link attaches to and then just back (to the rear) of the top link on the mower.I like to refer to as an "H" with a bug end for the attachment to the transmission /draft control and the other end a smaller attachment to the mower pin and then if you want bolts thru it that make it rigid.
I am in the process of restoring a Dearborn 14-16 and could send you picture directly, instead of this site problem. I wish I could post on this site as I also modified a fertilizer drive shaft of 1 3/8" spline that is 7/8" X 3/4" end on it that I had milled to the 3/4" X 3/4" square sliding drive shaft end of the mower. This shaft was bought new from tractor supply. It comes with the news safety shield that will now take the place of the previouos bolt on that kept the grass from winding up on the PTO shaft (which also didn't get in the purchase). I have mounted this mower on a Ford 600.
I am currently waiting for a 47" X 1" drive belt ordered (and still available) from a Ford tractor dealer.
The previous owner also replaced the shims for the blade height, which were 1/"16 wide, with Ford mower shims which are 1?8" wide, thus making for a poor shearing action. I have 2 other currently scraper of which I might restore or sell parts off of.
Also make sure the "break away is not rusted shut. I sprayed BP Blaster and then chained it to a tree to break it loose. You might want to purchase a book on this mower from this sites "manuals".

  • Thanks Charles,

I now have everything I need except the extensions. In process of making those.

Your 8 3/4 dimension. Is that overall? I have a center to center measurement of 7 1/2 inches. Buying the material tomorrow and will cut as soon as I have resolved this.

Once I get it all together and operating I expect to replace the belt. Want to see everything working first.

    Thanks again,

    Jack
