  • Wood Chipper
  • I own a 2N with a Sherman step up transmission. I would like a pto wood chipper. Anyone have thoughts on whether the tractor would be able to operate one? What should I consider when choosing a chipper. Most are rated by HP of tractor, so I know that is a limiting factor. What about pto rpm? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks

  • I can relate my experience. The chipper I have will handle four inch wood. It is mounted on a Ford 860. I can crank it, engage the pto and it will eat anything I put in it with no strain. Many times the govenor will not engage. The 860 has about 45 HP. I am not sure of your hp rating. I do feel anything less than 30 HP would not operate the chipper satisfactorily.
