Re: Retrofit of a Sherman into a 8N from a 2N
Hardest part is drilling the hole in the case. Other than that it is a straight forward job. Replace the 8N clutch shaft back into the 2N to keep it going. That Sherman has it's own clutch input shaft.
If you keep the Sherman level, it won't lose any oil. If you tip it and oil comes out, prefill with trans oil before installation.
Do not install it, or any other auxiliary transmission, dry. The tractor trans won't be able to fill it before it locks up. Typically it is oil from the gears that works it's way up and keeps it topped off.
