My ‘46 N was put away for the winter ( inside unheated ). When I wanted to get it going I had starting problems. Well, I got it to start in the barn, but at idle and later at a medium rev the oil pressure gauge did not move. Not even a flicker. There is oil in the crankcase. How do you tell if it is the gauge, the pump, a tweaked line, or gremlins?

May need to prime the oil pump. Squirt oil in through the oil pressure relief valve. Should be some info in the "how to's"

Thanks, Steve. I looked at the “how tos” but didn’t see anything. I’ll try the prime and get back to this forum.

There have been several posts regarding how to do this as it is a common problem where the oil pump drains it's oil back into the sump when sitting for long periods. It entails removing the large hex-head bolt retaining the relief plunger and spring at the top of the timing gear cover and just squirting oil with a squirt can into the oil galley until it fills to the top. Of course you need to remove the plunger and spring too and the squirt can must be inserted so the end reaches into the galley and not just into the area of the timing chain cover. An engine cut-away drawing in any of the manuals should illustrate how this is set up. Once the pump is primed and the relief valve back in place you should see oil pressure within a few seconds on starting.

Thanks for all the help. Yes it was a priming issue and all is ok now. 35 lbs on startup. Happy as a clam at high tide.
