Steering Wheel
Did any of the N tractors have a screw on steering wheel? I have an 8N that seems to have been put together from several tractors of various vintage and has a screw on steering wheel that I have having trouble removing.

Re: Steering Wheel
Thanks for the two great responses. My question was actually a false alarm. I did not know what I was looking at. John is correct however as the bottom of the steering wheel was tack welded to the shaft. I did get it off, but it was a lot of work.

Re: Steering Wheel
Glad you discovered the weld and did not do any damage to the steering wheel or, more importantly, to yourself. There is a lot of experience on this sight and I have had numerous causes to use it. If I can help, it is a pleasure. ps No money and no free parts. LOL

Re: Steering Wheel
Don't know anything about a screwed on steering wheel but before you twist and turn needlessly try this. Center drill the steering wheel nut so that the tit of a 2 jaw puller screw centers in the nut. Screw the nut back onto the steering shaft but leave it a few threads loose. Install the puller hooking the jaws under the hub and tighten the puller screw with some serious torque. Now heat the steering wheel hub and within a couple of minutes it should pop loose. You can braze the hole in the nut closed, sand and paint good as new.

Re: Steering Wheel
The 9N was splined. The 8N had a half moon key. I'm not aware of any N having a threaded steering wheel or any later model steering box that would bolt onto the 8N. Having said that, "farmerizing" could have made something work.
