  • NAA steering gear
  • My new/used Ford NAA has a good 5 to 7 inches of play in the wheel meaning you can turn the wheel 5-7 inches before the pitman arms start to move. What's involved in repairing this problem ?

  • If you have been into a late 8N steering box, the NAAs, Hundreds, even 3 cylinder Thousands are all nearly identical in the way they work.
How are your tie rod ends?
If they are tight then jack the front wheels off the ground then loosen the the jamb nut on the screw on the rearmost sector cap and tighten the screw as you turn the wheel lock to lock. Not too tight. Then do the front one.
You can usually get most of the slop out that way unless the sector gears are badly worn.
If they are too badly worn the screw on the cap will be too short to put the jam nut on.
