The better brush hogs will have gearboxes made in Italy. This would include Bushhog, Landpride, BEFCO, Rhino, Woods, and hogs that are painted up for Deere, Kubota, CNH, etc. Most all of those hogs sold as tractor name brands are OEM products.
The cheaper hogs will have Chinese components. This would include King Kutter.
What it gets down to is how much you intend to use it. For light use, no need to spend more than you have to. If you are planning to be out there every week all summer doing acres of trail and pasture, you might want to go for top quality.
Be very careful of used hogs. They can get very seriously bent up, twisted, gearbox torn loose, etc. Many times it is cheaper to replace than repair. I have seen some really BAD hogs for sale by the side of the road.
